Royal Roads University is committed to providing opportunities and venues to foster intersectional understanding and connection; being a catalyst for equity, diversity and inclusion; and recognizing that at RRU, Everyone Counts.

Our guiding principles

EDI initiatives carry great value for individuals, the university and the future. Universities as cultural change institutions, with mandates of their research, teaching, and community engagement, are uniquely positioned to affect national and international conversations. Institutions of higher education are places where tomorrow’s influential professionals are trained and educated. These graduates will be change agents.

Moving forward together

We believe that inclusion is a group effort. We held information sessions in March and April of 2019 and these conversations started our organizational EDI journey. We had a great response: 242 employees joined in, including exempt, CUPE and RRUFA staff.

During the presentations, RRU’s commitment to EDI was confirmed. And, we discussed what we learned from the employee EDI survey.

The process of working together is exactly what we hoped for when starting this work. Because diversity is everybody's business.

We produced a video (and transcript) to talk about EDI in our workplace:

We have partnerships in place with the Canadian Centre for Diversity & Inclusion and Pride at Work Canada to support this vital work.
