Clean drinking water is essential for the health and well-being of individuals and communities. Access to safe, clean water is a basic human right and a foundation for public health.
Colwood campus
RRU implemented a drinking water testing program at the Colwood campus in 2020 based on the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality.
Water quality on campus
While testing confirmed most of our water sources are safe, out of an abundance of caution, we introduced new campus drinking water standards including testing campus water sources annually.
What water on campus is safe to drink?
You should only drink water from water bottle filling stations and water coolers located across campus — this also applies to the water you use to make your coffee, tea, soup or any other food item.
Tap water can be used to wash your hands and dishes only.
Measures undertaken to provide safe, clean water
The filters in the water bottle filling stations are replaced every three months, following the manufacturer’s recommendation. Water filters have been installed in all food preparation areas.
Langford campus
Water testing will be performed on an annual basis to monitor water quality. Water bottle filling stations are located by the washrooms on Levels 1-5. The tap water available in the lounges on Levels 3-5 is safe to use as drinking water and to make your coffee, tea and other food items.
