Professional Services

*Associate faculty are independent contractors who provide professional services to Royal Roads University under limited-term contracts to develop and/or teach individual courses in our programs. In alignment with our Learning, Teaching & Research model, associate faculty bring their professional and practical experience to the university as scholar-practitioners who excel at pedagogy informed by concurrent practice.

The School of Business invites applications for an Associate Faculty position in Accounting to support our undergraduate and graduate programs. We are seeking an experienced accounting professional with strong teaching ability and a commitment to high‑quality, practice‑focused education, to teach one or more of the following courses:

BUSA103 Principles of Accounting

This course introduces you to the fundamental principles and processes of financial accounting used to record, summarize, and report an organization’s financial activities. You will learn how to prepare and interpret key financial statements, analyze transactions, and evaluate business performance. Emphasis is placed on the role of accounting in decision-making for both internal and external users. Topics include accrual accounting, internal controls, inventory, receivables, long-lived assets, and liabilities, with a focus on ethical practices and real-world applications.

BUSA508 Accounting for Strategic Business Decisions

Calendar Description Considers financial tools and performance measurements that are widely used in both the public and private sectors. Focuses on tools that are required by both experienced and aspiring leaders. The face-to-face element of the course takes a workshop approach that requires hands on application of tools and measurements by course participants. In the on-line element of the course learners will engage in class wide discussions on key course concepts.

ENMN324 Financial Accounting

Explores financial accounting concepts and the principles underlying financial statements. Examines the conceptual framework of accounting along with the accounting cycle and implementation of accrual accounting methods with emphasis on performance measurement and the preparation and use of financial statements.

ENMN332 Managerial Accounting

Develops the skills required to apply financial information to managerial and entrepreneurial decision making, with emphasis on tracking and managing financial performance. The course explores the value of financial planning in determining potential profit and loss, and considers the limitations of financial data.

MGMT565 International Accounting Tools for Financial Health

Considers financial tools and performance measurements that are widely used in both the public and private sectors. The course focuses on tools that are required by both experienced and aspiring leaders, providing opportunities for hands-on application of tools and measurements by course participants. In individual and team projects, learners will examine the controls used by organizations and will explore the differences and similarities between Canadian and international financial reporting.

  • 24th August to 8th November 2026
  • 4th January to 21st March 2027
  • 3rd May to 18th July 2027
  • Delivery model: On Campus, Face-to-face

Qualifications

Requisite qualifications include:

The successful candidate will teach courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, and/or analytics‑aligned accounting topics. This role is ideal for a practitioner‑educator who brings real‑world insight into the classroom and can translate professional experience into meaningful learning for students.

Required Qualifications:

  • A recognized professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA, CFE, ACCA, IAT or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated professional experience in accounting, assurance, finance, or related fields
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to teach diverse learners
  • Commitment to academic integrity, student success, and applied learning

  • A teaching philosophy that is compatible with RRU’S commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as RRU’s Learning, Teaching and Research Model
  • Completion of basic pedagogical training, and/or willingness to take the requisite pedagogical professional development workshop opportunities provided by the Centre for Teaching & Educational Technologies, as recommended by the program.
  • Experience using learning and teaching technologies (RRU uses the Moodle learning management system, Zoom, and other technologies) and/or willingness to take the requisite technical professional development workshop opportunities provided by the Centre for Teaching & Educational Technologies, as recommended by the program.
  • Equity, Diversity and Inclusion related competencies:
    • Awareness around providing individualized accommodation for learners
    • Working with non-dominant gender identities and expression
    • Familiar with Indigenization and decolonization approaches, anti-racist perspectives, and unconscious bias
    • Familiar with use of inclusive language
  • Experience working in a Microsoft environment is an asset.

Example: Availability

  • On campus courses are typically three hours in duration and are taught once or twice per week for eleven weeks on campus (33 contact hours).  Successful applicants will be available to teach in person during the time periods associated with each course listed above.
